QLD Transport Accredited Driver Trainer
THINGS TO REMEMBER ON YOUR TEST:
The first thing to do when you are given an instruction is to check your mirror – then position yourself in plenty of time for the move, using the System of Vehicle Control
Remember that other road users don’t know that you are taking your driving test; they won’t be doing anything to help you!
Every road you take is part of the test – ask yourself “why has he brought me here?” (Speed zone, one-way, etc.)
Make the examiner feel comfortable, give him time to scan at intersections
The examiner wants you to pass your test safely.
There are no “nice” or “horrible” examiners, they all mark to the same criteria.
Read the road ahead as if you have never been there before - like an instruction manual (road markings, signs, etc)
Make sure of your Give Way rules and the recent Australian Road Rules
Don’t make an illegal move just to carry out the examiner’s instructions. If you can’t do what he asks safely and legally (wrong lane, traffic build-up, etc) you must tell him so he doesn’t think you are about to make an illegal turn (he will stop you and you will fail the test if he has to assist or intervene)
Don’t give or take instructions from other road users or pedestrians
Don’t assume you’ve failed if you make a mistake
A STOP sign is a GIVE WAY sign that you must stop at – the Give Way rules apply after stopping at a STOP sign.
Imagine you are in the car behind you – make sure you give signals in plenty of time
